Understanding Model Year
The model year is the year when the specific craft is intended to be placed on the market. It represents a 12-month period that can extend across two calendar years.
Model Year Examples:
A craft manufactured in November 2025 (coded K5) could have model year 25 or 26, depending on when the manufacturer intends to market it:
• If marketed as a 2025 model: WIN ends with K525
• If marketed as a 2026 model: WIN ends with K526
The manufacturer decides which calendar year is designated as the model year based on their marketing strategy.
Manufacturer Identification Code Registration
⚠ Registration Required for European Market
For craft to be placed on the European market under Directive 2013/53/EU, the Manufacturer Identification Code (MIC) must be registered with a European entity according to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1 of 3 January 2017.
